MENSCAPADES CHAPTER 2

          CHAPTER 2.

"Kwani unaishi floor ya juu kabisa?Mimi izi stairs apana. Heeeeeh (loss of breathe), you plan to wear me out then kill me with food. Great." I said. "I would rather kill you with something else" he said turning slightly to wink at me. "What would that be?" I asked defensively, oblivious to the firm grip on my left hand. "Pleasure (deep chuckle)" he said. This muffled my whining and we went up the flight of stairs in utter silence. We finally got to his house, a constant whisper in my mind being, 'You don't even know this guy and here you are at his house'. This made me look up and study him as he fumbled with his keys and finally opened the door. "Karibu." He invited, as he walked in to switch on the lights. 'Then there was light', I laughed at the biblical phrase living rent free in my mind.

I stepped in, my mouth sweeping the floor. To say the house was beautiful, well kept and had a manly feel to it was an understatement. After shamelessly ogling his place and having the kikuyu in me debate on the prices of various valuables in his house, I sat at the furthest edge of his dark grey chesterfield. "Mi casa su casa," he said as he took off his gloves and biker jacket revealing his muscles and ink. He left and came back with two glasses and a bottle of Ariel Cabarnet Sauvignon. "It's not alcoholic I promise,my intentions for tonight are to get to know each other." He said as he set the glasses down and was inches away from opening the bottle. I guess he had noticed the look in my eyes that screamed, 'Wow! Typical! Get me drunk, kill me then dump my body in some river not even found on any map.' "So long as you feed me like you promised" I said with a smile. He poured in the wine, played some old school music then sat a few inches away from me after he had handed me my glass. "Cheers to a strange night, strangers and…" I trailed off wondering what would bring some umph to the toast I was making. "How about lying bitches?" He asked catching me off guard. His eyesight strained on something behind me.

That's when i saw it, a table top frame with a picture of him and what I presumed to be the lying bitch. Forgive the french. "And to lying bitches." I concluded as we raised our glasses and made a toast. As soon as the wine had made it's way down my throat, I asked "What happened?" He let out a breathe, sat comfortably with one leg folded under him, looked intently at me and said, "I caught her cheating on me with my brother tonight. Apparently it was his way of showing me she wasn't good for me, huh!" Wow! How does someone recover from that? Your own blood! This scenario brought up the song Nairobi by sauti sol, such a tragedy. "Well good riddance, your brother does have a wicked way of bringing things to light." I said sipping some wine. We talked about everything from my night escapades to our childhood memories. He laughed as I said blatantly, "It's a good thing you didn't tattoo her name on you." "How sure are you I didn't? You wanna do a sweep? I have some tattoos you can't see through my clothes," he teased, nearly making me choke on my weetabix.

Oh yeah, we had moved our banter to the kitchen, where I had sat on his kitchen counter, not bothered about my thighs being on display, blissfully eating some weetabix in a blue ceramic bowl. Breakfast at 1am was our hashtag. Devin, was busy making a proper meal as he called it of, beef biryani. The aroma was to die for. 'A man who could cook, deliciously dipped in ink, not too much to look gangster and not too little to look like a beginner. Most importantly one who had just done a karaoke with me on the song Miss independent by Neyo and was now about to feed me. Who would cheat on that?' I let my thoughts roam tax free in my mind.

Once the food was ready we sat down, picked a movie(Acrimony to be precise) and ate as we watched. When I say watched, I meant we discussed ever detail by putting ourselves in the shoes of the starring. By the end of the movie, we were at a draw on our arguments, full and sleepy. Him being a gentleman, offered his bed. I obviously declined. He convinced me by changing the sheets  and gave me one of his grey sweatshirts to sleep in. We said our goodnights, as he left to sleep on the couch.

"Devin! Babe! Devin please! This is embarrassing, let me in and we can talk about this!" I woke up to the shouting. I made my way and found Devin as he had just opened the door. In strolled this beautiful lady, I am not sure what blinded me more, the light from the now opened window or the reflection the light made from her lipgloss. I presumed she was the owner of the banging and shouting this fine morning. She came to slow halt on either the realization of me in front of her or me in her man's sweatshirt. Whichever her reason, the disgust plastered on her face was visible from here to Kentucky. "Who is this whore!" She spat, throwing her mustard, african print woven basket bag on the chair ready to fight.
