MENSCAPADES CHAPTER 6
The ride back home was a relaxed and intriguing one. Cantella filled me in on how her husband had been a viscous snake when it came to getting her company, while on the other hand he posed as a loving, caring and supportive husband back at home. What a prick! "When women do such a thing, we are labelled gold diggers and crazy… but when a man does it, he is given a pat on the back!" Cantella exclaimed. I could hear the pain in her words even though she didn't show it. We exchanged contacts before she dropped me off and promised to keep in touch with our unending dramas.
I opened the door to my apartment and as soon as my door creaked closed, I fell to my knees and broke down. I cried and drained my tear ducts. I stood up and headed towards my bathroom to take a long hot shower. I reeked of prison cells, courts, crazy ex-girlfriends and two men. I switched on my phone and responded to a mountain of texts from family and friends. I practically lied through my teeth when I told some of my friends and family that I had decided to take time off social media. If only they knew the ordeal I had gone through. After cooking myself my famous pilau, I sat down and switched on my television to watch kissing booth for the upteenth time.
I must have fallen asleep, because I woke up to my phone ringing and my tv screen reading Netflix. Too lazy to check who was calling, I picked up, "Hello…" "Hey it's Devin, please don't hung up, I just need to talk, could you open the door?" Devin spoke. I was quiet for what seemed like a century, then it hit me, "Wait did you just tell me to open the door? How in the hell do you know where I live? There is nothing to talk about Devin, just go home and forget we ever met." I nearly shouted. "I got your number and address from my lawyer, who was your lawyer. I can hear you loud and clear through my phone and your door. We have alot to talk about, atleast I do. Forgetting I met you is like asking me to trade my bike for a ringtone concert." He said with a tired sigh at the end. "You had me at a ringtone concert." I said as I flung my door wide open, my phone still held to my ear. He was leaning on my door post, his eyes puffy from lack of sleep but he still looked as fresh as a daisy. Perks of being hot. He suddenly groped me in a hug and didn't want to let go till I wiggled myself out of his hold. We sat down and talked. He mostly did all the talking while I sat there like a trophy audience.
He apologized for his ex-girlfriend's deportment, whose name i had banned from being used in my humble abode. He informed me that she had hired some thugs to roughen her up. He even showed me texts of threats she had made to him if he didn't take her back. Desperation was an outfit she wore well. In between our conversation, Devin ordered us some hawaiian pizza, blueberry ice cream and some gin. After eating to our fill, we started taking shots. Devin hinted his dislike towards Marto. Sounded like a jealous boyfriend to me. But I dismissed this in the name of being tipsy. We danced and did some karaoke and before I knew it...we had locked in for a kiss. I impulsively took a step back and fell onto the couch. I blacked out.
Waking up the next morning was really hard. Everything seemed loud. Even the colors on my wall seemed to be screaming for my blood. The curse of gin was taking a toll on me. My house was so clean and there was no sight of Devin. A small purple note by my coffee table suddenly caught my attention. "Good morning sunshine, there are some meds and a glass of water for your hangover by your tv stand. Yes we kissed😉. See you on Saturday for the plus one invite you agreed to. 🤤 Devin." What on earth had I agreed to! I picked up my phone to dial Devin's number to cancel whatever godforsaken invite I had said yes to, when Cantella's name popped up on my screen. "Hell…" I was cut off. People needed to stop doing that. "Morning liloh, I need to ask for a favor, I want you to help me seduce my husband and get my company back." She said in one breath, with so much confidence and audacity. "What!" I exclaimed in disbelief.
