MENSCAPADES CHAPTER 4

The ride to the station was bumpier than my two previous relationships combined. Afande made sure that silence between Devin and I was maintained, so the only thing we could do was steal glances at each other and try to read each other’s thoughts. We got to the station and within seconds we were booked and asked to make one phone call. Afande handed me my phone and reminded me to make a right choice in who I called because my mouth had already landed me into enough trouble as it was.

Before I could even key in my dad’s phone number, Marto’s number popped up on the screen. The urge to decline the call was higher than the peak of Mt. Everest. “He…” I was cut off. “Baby, where are you? I have been trying to reach you all night. I met up with a friend and she needed help with her car that’s why I couldn’t pick you up last night.” He said lying through his teeth. “Seriously Marto! A whole night fixing one car! Kwani you were helping her build another model from the ground up? Ebu don’t get me riled up! If you want to be a hero to another damsel in distress then you can come get me from Kilimani police station jerkass!” I yelled hitting the end call button with so much force, the screen nearly cracked.

Right on cue, afande came and snatched the phone from my hold. He was adamant to any of my pleas. Devin’s whereabouts at this point were a puzzle to me. “Toa chochote chenye hakifai kuingia cell ueke hapa.” Madam Afisa said giving me a sneer. “Mimi sijui nini haifai kuingia cell,” I blurted out. My mouth would definitely be the end of me. Afisa Dorothy, as I heard her being called, spat in my face. Like literally spat so hard I even heard her say ‘Tuuu!’ from the force she made to aim her saliva on my face. I was hotter than a heater at this point but I didn’t want to dig my grave more than I had. She got up from behind the booking desk and ransacked me. We could say that after she was done, she had left no stone unturned. I was in so much pain from the “Inama! Paa! (slap), unadhani tumeandikwa na babako yako uku! Paa! (slap)” I reminded myself that ‘Big girls don’t cry’, because at this point, I would flood the station with my tears and was sure that they would still press charges for that. As I was brutally escorted to my cell, our eyes met.

She was beaten black and blue, her eyes were so swollen I doubt she could see beyond what was left of her eyelashes. Her left arm was in a sling and the other hand held tightly to her stomach one would think its contents valuable. Her ombre wig was tangled so bad, I felt a pang of pity. Don’t get me started on how her clothes looked. A gasp escaped her mouth, that was previously coated in clear gloss. “Flavia?” I yelped. To say I was stupefied was an understatement. I couldn’t have possibly done all that, because the sight before me was definitely not an act, otherwise this girl had earned herself a standing ovation from the whole world. “That’s her! Please don’t let her hurt me again! You can have him! Afande, please don’t let her come close to me!” Flavia’s screams rented the entire station. I was tongue-tied at this point seeing how fast the tables had turned. Was this a prank? Because if it was, then someone was definitely going overboard and should stick to the script.

I winced as my punisher gripped my arm and forcefully shoved me into a semi-dark filthy cell, leaving me with a promise to make my life a living hell like I had done so for Flavia. Being a scholar of public health, hygiene was the least of my concerns at the moment. I had my back to the wall and slid downward till all I could do was hug my knees. Not long had I sat there as still as a statue, when I heard my name being called out.

“Lilian! Lilian?” I turned to the owner of the voice. “Devin? Devin! How did you get out? Did you see her? She looks like a train wreck!” I said all in one breath. “Calm down, I know, I saw her, she is trying to set you up and I know all this is my fault. My lawyer is here and he will get you out.” He said, his eyes spelling out ‘guilt’ in bold colors. The only thing I remember was the lawyer asking about the incidents that took place at the house, informing me that I had been denied bail because apparently,  Flavia knew some powerful people and lastly that I would be arraigned in court two days from now. Oh! I didn’t miss the part where he said, “I will do everything in my power to make these charges go away. They wont stick.” As Afande dragged me to my cell, I forcefully turned and looked at Devin and said, “You know what Devin, it is your fault.”

If you have read till this point...then bless your soul. What do you think will happen next? Will I be an inmate? Will Flavia find her heart and drop the charges? I want to hear all the questions you may have. Till Monday for chapter 5 loves๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿคช๐Ÿงก.
